Suggestions anyone???

This forum is not getting the traffic that it should. We would like to see more folks taking advantage of it. If anyone has any ideas of what we can do here to make it better please post them on this thread.

I have a suggestion. I think that if you have a photo forum on this site it would attract people like us who are snow birds and get homesick for Rotonda during the summer. Also, there are a lot of people here who appreciate the area and take great pictures, like Cathy Mosely does. Maybe have a photo contest in the forum. Is it technically possible to post photos here? (Is there a server that we could FTP a photo to?)

We like to check out the "gator-cam" in Rotonda. I don't know who runs that web site, but a link to it would probably be a benefit to the home page and maybe to a forum. Maybe Cathy could write a story about it for the newsletter.

That sounds like a good idea Diane. I take a lot of pictures out on the waterways myself. It would be cool to be able to post them here.

Don't know if you knew it or not, but the web site already has a "Photo Gallery" at http://www.rotondawest.org/photo.gallery.html. Residents are encouraged to submit images for inclusion. Many of Cathy Moseley's photos appear there.

There is no direct FTP access, just e-mail your images to webmaster@rotondawest.org. Also, in forum posts, one may link to off-site hosted images.

Ken and Andy: There are some gorgeous photos in this forum. I really like the sunset and sunrise ones.

I put some photos in the Rotonda Facebook site. Here is a link to the ones I put up. Other folks have put up some really nice ones too.

Ken: If you want to take my photos from the above link and put them in this forum, you have my permission.

So, what about a photo contest? We could get people to post the photos to this forum, then get people to "vote" by e-mail on which one is best in say five categories and give away a reasonable prize.

Why not have a "before and after" home improvement photo category? Best improvement would win.

Please don't be disheartened. As absentee owners for most of the year, it is good to hear what is going on via the forum postings - Andy, especial thanks to you and please keep up the good work.
Also, the photo gallery really does help us Brits. It was cold and cheerless here today with wind, rain, sleet, hail and snow - just looking at the photos cheered me up.

Pete has brought up a good idea. Why not have a "Snow Bird" forum? Maybe you could get someone who is in Rotonda year round to moderate it and they could post info about Rotonda in the forum and answer questions from us birds!

By the way, Pete, be sure to check with the "Gator Cam" now and then to watch Rotonda on their camera. We often check the "cam" when we are not in Rotonda.
