Oakland Hills Marina:

Chairperson Romano showed the committee revisions to the Oakland Hills Marina which were brought in by Art Richards. The main island will have no curbing around it. In the center will the flag pole and Memorial Park sign. On either side of the island will be a picnic area with tables. Curbing will divide the grassy area from the parking area. A gradual grass slope will lead to the water. There will be three (3) areas of grouped (3) Royal Palms with up lighting on each side of picnic area. The picnic area will also have lights. Art Richards also included the detail areas for B and C. The new driveway detail (Area B) for the County to get access to the pump house will be curbed and either shall or black top will be placed on the driveway. This should eliminate the County from running over the sprinkler heads. Area C will include the newspaper stand and the bike stand. Benches will be on either end of the entrance to the dock area.

Chairperson Romano stated that for the next meeting, Art Richards would like to work on the specifications. Discussion followed. Joseph Romano asked if these plans were tentative. The answer was Yes. Mr. Romano also asked if there would be two (2) picnic tables. Again, the answer was Yes. Nick Gizzi asked about the up lighting. Ms. Romano stated the lighting would be next to the curbing. Mr. Gizzi stated, if a vehicle overhangs the curb, it would affect the lighting. Discussion ensued. Chairperson Romano indicated that Art Richards mentioned putting in some stand-up lights. More discussion will take place at future meetings.

Family Fun Day August 25, 2007:

David Kelly had a diagram showing where the parking, admission area, vendors area and food area would be located. He stated he would like to have antique cars and boats. The vendors would surround the fun area. There could be a bounce house, dunk tank, or any other money making game in this area. The Fun Day is being sponsored by the Rotonda West Association, Inc., Rotonda Golf, and The American Legion. All proceeds will go to the Rotonda West Beautification efforts. Children 12 and under are free all other admissions will be $1.00 and parking will be $1.00. Admissions, parking, and clean-up will need volunteers. There will be a 50/50 raffle and other raffles. Rotonda Golf will raffle off 100 rounds of free golf. John Eisele will have bikes to raffle. It was suggested to get KIX radio station to broadcast from the Fun Day. The hours for Fun Day will by 10:00am to 6:00 pm. Discussion followed. Claudette Romano suggested that admissions be done by the Beautification committee. It was also suggested to contact the Garden Club to see if they would be a vendor and the Women’s Club to have a dessert table.

New Business:

Chairperson Romano stated that the Sun newspaper placed one of their boxes at Rebel Court and Broadmoor Memorial Park. Nick Gizzi had the box at Rebel Court Removed. If the Sun wishes to place their newspapers at the Memorial Parks, they need to be placed in the stand available. Nick Gizzi will contact The Sun.

Nick Gizzi stated he received a phone call from a 90 year old resident of Oakland Hills who needed help removing growth from the canal bank. The resident can no longer do this type of work. Our Deed Restrictions say on improved lots the residents are responsible for keeping canal bank clean. John Eisele stated that Eisele, Inc. cleared this area twice for this resident. Discussion ensued.

Nick Gizzi also stated that he was contacted by the Rotonda Elks to participate in a Christmas Parade. This could be tied in with the RWA tree lighting at the gazebo. The committee members stated this is a great idea and it would be positive press. The festivities could be at the Oakland Hills Marina. This is just in the concept stage now, There could be floats and a band. Discussion followed.

John Eisele stated the MSBU is getting ready to curb Boulevard West. Discussion followed on putting out bids for trees and work to be done in the median. Claudette Romano stated that a plan had been done for the Rotonda West Bridge with planting to include Cardboard palms, Foxtail palms, Hawthorne bushes, dwarf Bougainville, dwarf Gold Mound, dwarf Firebush and Cabbage Palms. It was suggested that the Beautification Committee have a meeting when the county starts putting down the curbing so bids can be put out for work in this area.
