Meeting was called to order by Chair Nick Gizzi at 3:00 pm. Roll call was taken. Minutes from November 28th were accepted. The Committee did not meet in December.
Nick announced that Norb Zoltowski would no longer serve on the main committee but would remain active as a sub-committee member.
Stan Plizga was introduced as the newest member to the ACS committee.
Since some of the committee members had not arrived, Mr. Gizzi stated he was holding off discussing the sub-committee chairs and members.
There was discussion on a possible new format of meetings. Nick supplied a copy of suggested topics prepared by Norb Zoltowski. Nick requested feedback before the next meeting.
When a format is approved the agenda will be posted on the website so that members would know of upcoming events and hopefully make efforts to attend meetings that would be of interest to them.
Marine & Aquatic Habitat/ Education & Publicity: Bob Winters reported that their sub-committee received notification from the South West Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) that their application for a grant was successful. The grant in the amount of $2875.00 is to be used to purchase and plant a variety of beneficial plants in the littoral zone at the White Marsh Park. A sign will be placed in the park that will describe the plants that will be planted.
A copy of the letter sent to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection was given to all committee members. This letter requested help from the FDEP in resolving our problems with our water control structures.
Another package was distributed containing background and documents describing the problems with the overgrown conditions in the Coral Creek dam area, the 2600 foot swale and the berms at the ends of the Rotonda River.
Meeting was adjourned at 4:10 pm.
