Aquatic Canal System Committee
Special Meeting
Report
Tuesday March 25, 2008
On Tuesday evening March 25th at 7pm the ACS Committee hosted a very interesting informative presentation at the Community Center. Bob Winter introduced Ms. Susan Scott who represented the National Wildlife Federation’s backyard habitat program. She described native plants we should consider planting in our gardens and recommended drought tolerant species that would require a minimum of care. She was an excellent presenter and kept the attention of the audience for an hour. The presentation was a condensed version of what she normally presents and many people expressed that they would like to have her back for the complete presentation.
Prior to Ms. Scott's presentation Nick Gizzi gave a synopsis of our concerns with the leaking weir and breach in the 2600 foot swale to the 75 residents in attendance. He also described the overgrown condition of the Coral Creek Dam,
Invited to this meeting were three of the candidates interested in running for the County Commissioner seat district 3. They were Richard Sinclair, Robert Skidmore and incumbent Tom Moore. After Ms. Scott’s presentation the candidates gave us some background about themselves and fielded questions from the audience. They were asked what they would do to alleviate our canal concerns. Some heated debate followed. Since there was a great deal of interest with the candidates and there probably be more running for the position, it was suggested that we have a “meet the candidates” night later in the year. We will let you know when this will occur.
