Gopher Turtles
The RWA is seeking a coordinator and volunteers to mark gopher turtle burrows around Rotonda. The coordinator need only provide flags and written instructions to volunteers on how to identify and mark the burrows. This is a good opportunity for volunteers who don't have much time but would like to get involved on an as needed basis. Keep Rotonda Clean
There's a new volunteer group in action in Rotonda West. It's purpose is to clean up litter on our roadsides and canals on a continuing basis. All that's needed
for this worthwhile project are volunteers willing to donate a couple hours per month, walking a chosen route with a bag and stick, picking up litter. Each section of Rotonda has a
captain in charge of volunteers in their respective area.
If you are interested in canal cleanup, contact the canal captain, Andy VanScyoc, 828-851-0788 or email: avanscyoc@aol.com.
The RWA boat is available for use by canal volunteers who provide proof of residency and file a copy of their driver's license in the RWA office.
If you would like to adopt a portion of a street or canal to maintain monthly, call Don & Belinda Olsen, 697-7840 or Linda Harrison, 875-8185. A printable
volunteer signup form is available here.
Neighborhood Watch
All of us associated with Rotonda West Neighborhood Watch take great pride in the fact that Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Cameron has stated repeatedly that our organization "is absolutely the best in Charlotte County and a model of what a Watch should be." So said John House, President of the Rotonda West Watch.
Next year, the Watch will mark 40 years of providing a valuable community service to deter crime in all of our neighborhoods. We owe this great accomplishment to our many dozens of faithful volunteers, many of whom have served for more than a decade.
One of our primary goals in 2010 is to expand our membership. All we ask is that our volunteers devote two hours each month to patrol our streets, or to serve as base station volunteers. If you are a part-time resident, we encourage your service while you are here, as well as full-time residents.
Every volunteer receives training, a copy of our monthly newsletter, and the satisfaction of knowing that you are giving back to your community. And you will be invited as a guest to our two "Volunteer Appreciation" social gatherings during the year.
If you are interested in learning more, please call President John House at (941) 697-8030, or Bob Bondeson, Vice President-Administration, at (941) 548-1384.
Rotonda West Neighborhood Watch meets at 3 PM on the third Thursday of each month at the Community Center. All are welcome.
